Spirit and flesh, give and take
The foundation of the Eight
The foundation of the Eight is two lines that cross. One runs from spirit to flesh, the other from giving to taking, and every element sits somewhere on both.
Every true pair has one foot on each side of the line between spirit and flesh. Cross that with a second line, giving against taking, and the Eight fall into place.
Giving runs out from me; taking comes from you. Ask whether it's done to a person or to a thing and you get four boxes. Each box holds two elements that sit opposite each other on the wheel.
| A person | A thing | |
|---|---|---|
| Give (from me) | Spirit and Sound: saying who I am; giving myself | Water and Fire: creation. Making is giving from me |
| Take (from you) | Blood and Light: seeing. It takes your identity, your privacy | Time and Iron: keeping, holding a thing. It stops you |
