Sand village

Sand / Blood · the dial country

Sand village is the granary village on the first high ground. It keeps the record of who you belong to and what is owed. In the drift its Blood died, so the records forgot the people.

Here you are entered into the record: who you belong to, what you're owed, and what you owe. The granaries stand on the first high ground above the flood line, where nothing gets washed away.

Its people come from Sand: granary-keepers, moneylenders and record-keepers. They hoard. Their pact is the Inheritance Bank, which holds stores and debts across generations.

The flaw is that a house can stay in debt forever. When Blood died here, the record outlived the kin. Stores were kept for no one, debts bound strangers, and graves lost their names. Belonging went with Blood.

Of all the villages, this is the one where the country's stories about debt are rooted.
