The water village

River / Flame · the Delta

The water village is a boat village up a creek behind Temeama. Its kilns and forge went cold in the drift, so it could move but couldn't make anything. Pere is bringing Fire home.

Up a creek behind Temeama, below the salt line and hours away by canoe, the water village lives on its boats. Ferrymen and merchants. They drift.

Its pact is the Engine: kilns along the creek, steam driving the work, the forge, the smithy and the smokehouse. The flaw is built in. Either the fires get doused or the whole thing blows. They were doused.

In the drift the rite wore down from three jars to one. The words went, then the hour, then the forge went cold. Creativity, agility and sharing went with Flame. The village could still move. It just couldn't make or change anything.

Pere is the Called who brings Fire home. He holds Water then Fire, River and Flame, the village's own pair, which makes him its Post in waiting, though nobody has recognised him yet. The village once had four priests and a Post. Today it has none.
