Seven villages, one Spirit

How each village looks, and why

Creek World has seven villages with land, plus the Spirit village on the water, all grown from one force, Spirit. Each has its own look, people and light, and all are built from the same Niger Delta world.

Mangrove, dark water, timber, raffia, canoes, laterite, ironstone and the crafts of the people who live there: every village is built from the same handful of things, and no two look alike.

Each has its own outline against the sky, its own feel underfoot, its own colours and light. Underneath, all seven peoples grew from one first force, Spirit, in a world rooted in the Niger Delta.

Walk the route inland and the mood shifts at every stop. The Spirit village is the one place with no land and no buildings. Its drowned forest lies in the water between all the others.

VillageWhat it feels like
TemeamaAncestral grandeur. Red-earth terraces, carved timber, praise processions, colossal spirits in the coastal mist.
Water villageEveryday wonder. Lived-in stilt houses, canoes and washing lines, gentle light, spirits woven into daily chores.
The hubCommercial intensity. Stacked stilt compounds, floating markets, signal towers and reflected light.
Court islandCeremonial power. Controlled water, polished timber, rare stone and metalwork, deliberate empty space.
Sand villageAccumulated memory. Laterite high ground, raised granaries, drying grounds, cultivated land below.
Flame villageCostly change. Kilns, dye pits, glowing metal, charcoal smoke, lit waterways.
Stone villageGeological awe. Ironstone pillars, hanging forges, rope bridges anchored to the rock.
Spirit villageMystery between places. A drowned forest, black water, a lone canoe; reflections and distance cannot be trusted.

How the house draws them

  1. You can tell each place by its outline alone, before any colour or detail.
  2. Every building shows how it meets the water, the ground, the weather, the work and whatever grows nearby.
  3. Each element changes the land itself, not just its colours and sparks.
  4. Spirits differ in how they behave and live with their surroundings, not just in how they look.
  5. Every village has its own social life: how houses gather, where people meet, what they make and how they work.
  6. Spirit is the shared ancestor of all seven, and its shapes, reflections and patterns turn up everywhere.
  7. Every cultural reference is researched and named to a specific tradition. The Delta is never a generic look.
